Art Viewing Distances

What size prints do i need? If you're unsure and asking yourself that question, here's a quick guide to help figure it out...

With our prints, customers often purchase multiple items. So, you have to consider a couple of things first of all, especially if you're planning to put them all on the same wall...

1. When framed, will they all actually fit on the intended wall?

This is where you need to do a little bit of measuring beforehand. We only use 'A' size paper (A5, A4 and A3), so we've always suggested to customers, that they grab a couple of sheets of A4 paper as a starting point. Ask someone to just hold them on the wall and it's surprising how you can step back, then quickly gauge how things will look once framed.

Here's a quick look at how the 'A' paper sizes compare...

By the way... If you're not sure how to frame art prints, we've created a handy little guide to framing which should get you pointed in the right direction.

2. What's the optimal art viewing distance ?

In most situations, viewing distance can be judged by good old 'common sense'.

All of our art prints are very sharp, high resolution, so you never have to worry about any blurring when close up or pixelation. This quality goes a long way in helping with viewing distances.

A generally accepted idea is that an appropriate optimal viewing distance is simply the diagonal length of an image, multiplied by 2 - (this doesn't mean that you can't see it from further away, it just means that it's the 'optimal' place to stand).

We do get asked occasionally, what size print is the most common for the average home? Well, we sell pretty much equal amounts of the A5 and A4 sizes, then with customers occasional opting for the (larger) A3 size.

Should you make a purchase from our range, receive it, then decide that you want a different size... it's no problem at all. We can happily sort out an exchange for you. This doesn't happen very often however, out of all of the thousands of orders we've had over the years, customers have only ever asked to swap for a larger size a few times.

Virtually all of our customers are very happy with their choices.
